Bharatanatyam is a form of Indian classical dance that originated in the temples of Tamil Nadu. Described in the treatise Natya Shastra by Bharata around the beginning of the common era, it is known for its grace, purity, tenderness, expression, and sculpturesque poses.
Lord Shiva in his Nataraja form is considered the God of this dance. Students learn intricate footwork, expressive hand gestures (mudras), and storytelling through movement.
Mohiniyattam is a classical dance form from Kerala, India, believed to have originated in the 16th century. It is one of the eight Indian classical dance forms recognized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Considered a very graceful form of dance meant to be performed as solo recitals by women, Mohiniyattam embodies feminine grace through gentle, swaying movements reminiscent of swaying palms and ocean waves.
A highly experienced and passionate dancer with a strong foundation in classical Indian dance techniques, Divya Warrier brings decades of expertise to Divyam School of Performing Arts.
Beginning her dance journey at age 8 under guru Smt. Bhavani (an awardee from the prestigious Sangeet National Academy and Kerala Kalamandalam), Divya has dedicated her life to mastering and sharing these beautiful art forms.
She spent 5+ years training under guru R.L.V Pradeep Kumar and currently continues her quest for excellence under renowned guru Dr. Sreedhara Akhihebbalu (USA).
Perfect for those new to Indian classical dance. Learn basic positions, simple movements, and fundamental concepts in a supportive environment.
Build upon your foundation with more complex choreographies, refined techniques, and deeper exploration of expressions and storytelling.
Master intricate compositions, perform challenging pieces, and prepare for stage performances and arangetrams.
Mudras are symbolic hand gestures that form the vocabulary of Indian classical dance. Each gesture carries specific meanings and helps narrate stories through movement.
